The format of the shots of these scenes is we did it in the recording studio with two bright lights in front and behind the singer to create a shadow on her face. This will also be in black and white to differentiate that she is the artist and the other characters are just telling a story. There is a fade in the editing that we did in the studio where the solid picture is side on then there is a front take that is faded over the top at the same time. All these things show a similarity in the story as well because there are dark and happy side
s to the relationship that the couple share. So the focus is on the narrative and so it unfolds there isn’t going to be lots of singing footage but it just shows the artist and links the song and story together.
Christina Perry’s song ‘Jar of hearts’ shows this well as the clips of her singing are close ups or mid body shots to establish she is the singer; we have done this as well. Even though she takes part in most of the video and walks to show she’s interacting with the dancers and she’s telling the story and is part of it; we haven’t, we just had the girl stood and singing, so she looks sad and doesn’t need to be involved in the narration. Also the colours in Christina’s video are weak and drained to show it’s not a particularly happy story line. This is also why we have made our singing black and white.
