location shots

The opening scene to our music video is when the main male character jumps off a wall and commits suicide. For this sequence we have found a wall near the river that would be a perfect location. The wall isn’t that high so the character can jump off and we can get good shots still. We are going to make the wall look higher than it is to add suspense and the audience can feel sympathy and feel scared that he’s going to be jumping off a high wall that will hurt him. To achieve this we will have a low angle shot up towards the top of the wall to create the height of the wall. We will also have a high angled shot showing him on the floor after he has jumped and is lying there dead. This will show the impact the jump and fall had on him and how his day had ended up. From this angle we can see the height and the rest of the location and mis en scene as it looks like a public place as there is a path and a bridge that he falls on and near by; however it’s quite private as no one is near or walking past and so is a quiet location.

In the house where his girlfriend is it starts in a bedroom when he wakes up. We will show the bed and the couple in it and make the lighting right so it looks like the morning when he wakes up. Throughout this scene we follow the male but keep props and furniture in the shots so people can tell he’s still at his home. We also show a table with photos of the couple as he walks out of the house.

Another scene is at a job center as we are showing he wants to get his life on track and get a job. We will stand at the other side of the road so we get a clear view of the door and where it is set, to get the male walking in. We will then zoom or lift the camera so we can see the writing clearly and read that it says ‘job center’. We could also just have him walking through the door on a middle long shot then focus on the writing so we can’t tell what door he’s walking into till the end when on the words.

Where the man dies there is a tramline and so this would be good to show the time of day and a sense of the place he is in. Also it shows the viewers that it’s in a rural location in the present time.

When the male is walking around drinking the locations will jump from in a park, to on the street and in a public place like town. These will show different times of the day and the fact that he’s still drinking. By having the locations at different levels of publicity and how many people are around him will show that he doesn’t seem to care who is watching him and who knows what he’s doing.

He goes back into the house but this time they argue in the living room and kitchen. This will show different side to the couple and different props and feeling as it is in a different part of the house; It will have a comfy homely look to it like any other house, also it will look as if a young couple live in it not with children’s toys or things a larger family would have in their home.

The man’s lovers’ house will look normal and mainly focused on the doorway so we won’t show the rest of the house or flat so we won’t establish where it is. This will be as if we are still keeping the man’s secret of an affair hidden. The next location is in the bedroom of the bed, we won’t show too much of the items in the room as she isn’t a main character and we don’t need to show her personality through her room as we did for the relationship with the couple as it’s their life that is mainly their life that is affected by this incident. For the argument we will show a bit more of the room but not in detail and close ups.

There is another focus on the door as he walks into his own house again. Then a focus on the couch where she is cheating on the man with another man, There might be things on the floor to suggest things have been going on and these would be clear in the shot.

For when the male is drinking and walking around to different locations he might end up in an archway, which is near to where the male jumps and dies. This shows a depressive dark place to emphasis his emotions. It is a dirty place and by this time he would look rough as he’s been drinking and walking for most of the day. He also walks down a path parallel to the canal where there is a jump shot. The male ends up at a bench where he then lies and sleeps rough for the night.

The shot when there are bin bags outside of the house we will show most of the house so we know who I it that is kicking him out and is angry with him.

The split screen again will show his girlfriend with a shot of the majority of the room to symbolize how alone in their house she is now and because she is crying she regrets what happened. The mans secret lover is now with another man and this be a more close up and intimate shot so again we won’t be showing much of the room and surroundings.

The final scene is a repeat of the first but in more detail and more different shots; so the location and surroundings will be the same.
